It's that time of the year again when we have new boaters on the water that may not be aware of some basic boating rules and regulations. Maybe some seasoned boaters that may have forgotten some. Please take a moment to look over these boating guides. Some of the information may save your life, someone else's or at least a ticket from the Coast Guard or Marine Patrol.
I recently saw a youtube video of a family taking an outing on their boat. The infant child onboard was strapped in a car seat with no pfd on. They are called accidents because they are not planned. Just image something happen and that child went overboard still strapped in the car seat. The infant is unable to manipulate the strap locking device to get out. The seat is not a flotation device and no guarantee it will float up right to keep the head out of the water. Under Alabama Boating Regulations a child under the age of 8 must wear a pfd at all times on any vessel except when in an enclosed cabin.
You may need to show that to the 4 boats out on shoals a min ago I could be cast into there boat when I was only one in that area earlier and didn't catch a thing
